Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions, but if you can't find what you're looking for please don't hesitate to get in touch!

How much of what I give reaches the children of Uzima?

100% !  Nobody in the UK claims any expenses for travel to Kenya, printing costs, premises hire etc.  Trustees give of their time and expertise freely. It is rare to give to a charity and be sure that every penny goes to help the children.

If I decide to sponsor a child...is that unfair on those not yet sponsored?

Our Sponsor a Child scheme does not benefit individual children at Uzima; the money is pooled for them all, which provides two meals a day, basic education and medical assistance for every single one of them.

Where is Uzima and can I visit?

Uzima is close to the Ugandan border and lake Victoria in rural Western Kenya.

If you are 18 or over, or travelling with an adult who is responsible for you, then you can apply to visit Uzima with a trustee.  All visitors must do a fundraiser for Uzima and pay their own travel and expenses. E-mail joy@uzimainourhands.org for further information.

Are the children assessed for entitlement before admission into the school?

Yes, our school provides education to the most needy, so we carry out a thorough home assessment of their circumstances. Only children who have exceptional needs are accepted. There is always a waiting list as there are many vulnerable children in this impoverished area of Kenya.
